I was invited to Byermoor Farm in Burnopfield to meet up with Nicky and her gorgeous mare, Fly, for their shoot. Hannah (who you may have seen from her shoots with Eddie and Shadow at the beach) had bought Nicky a photoshoot voucher as a gift last year.
We had a very chilly February day for Nicky’s shoot, there was a thin layer of snow on the ground too – which looked beautiful in the photos! Nicky had Fly gleaming – her coat had a gorgeous shine to it and she looked wonderful in the frosty surroundings! Nicky (who was dressed head to toe in overalls when I arrived) returned from getting changed looking totally different, and her outfit complimented Fly’s coat beautifully!
We started the shoot in the arena gateway where we captured some black background photos – which really made Fly’s colouring pop! Then we worked our way round the yard picking out the best spots and scenery for the photos. By the waggon car park, there was the most beautiful view over the hills – so of course we spent some time here capturing those gorgeous bonding photos. Nicky and Fly had the most beautiful bond – fly couldn’t help but cuddle in to Nicky at any possible opportunity!
Nicky told me how she has owned Fly since she was 5 years old. Over the years they have taken part in countless Show Cross’ and Hunter Trials, and although trying out a bit of dressage, Fly was a little excitable and spent the majority of the time trying to find where the jumps were hiding! Fly is now 22 years old (and looking very well!), so she enjoys a quieter life of hacking. Having said that, she looked to be really enjoying her canters across the field during the mounted part of their shoot!
We ended the shoot with some ridden photos in the fields before heading back to the yard. Fly looked ever so proud of herself and I think she quite enjoyed the idea of being a pony-model!
Thank you for inviting me over to your gorgeous yard, it was a pleasure getting to know you and Fly better and I hope you’re enjoying your photos!
