I was invited back to the Rising Sun for the second time, after two enjoyable shoots with Liz and Vicki last year. This time I met up with Abbie and Jessie. Abbie had been gifted a voucher for her 21st birthday from Susan (who also had a photo shoot last year!) so had heard all about what to expect! When I arrived at the yard I was greeted by Abbie who took me to meet little Marty – her 1 year old Hanoverian x cob – who was the most beautiful stamp of a horse and certainly had the best of both breeds.
Abbie has owned Marty all his life, after being gifted him by a good friend. She told me how her previous horse, also Marty, was from the same person, and after sadly losing him she didn’t think she would get another. Two years on, her friend had a bit of a surprise when he bought a mare, who they thought was a little porky, and turned out she was in foal! So the story goes, along came Marty (the second!), and the rest was history – Abbie HAD to have him!
Marty has been a dream and Abbie is totally over the moon with him – he loads, travels and behaves impeccably for the farrier. He is very brave and confident and just loves human company – which made the shoot a lot of fun! When he is older, Abbie hopes to do some ridden showing with him, so has been taking him out and about for a bit of in hand showing in preparation. He has been an angel to take out and about – in fact, so much so that she decided a handful of oats may be required to give him a little extra edge for his photo shoot!
We made our way round to a crop field out the back of the yard, which had just been cut and bailed, for our photos. We posed by the bales, on the bales and then found some pretty blue flowers to pose by at the bottom of the field. We then headed back to the yard to use a stable for some studio-like black background photos before we let him loose in the school for some photos of him playing! I think this was his favourite part! Those oats were like rocket fuel and he flew around the school – showing off his fancy moves! I think Marty was thoroughly enjoying being a pony-model for the day!
Thank you ever so much for having me to photograph for you – I cannot wait to follow your journey and see what you and Marty get up to together in the future. Very exciting times ahead with this lovely boy I am sure!
