I was invited to meet Ashleigh and Pauline at their yard in Durham on a lovely day in September. When I arrived, pony parlour was in full swing and Sid and Shadow were looking rather polished! After my shoot with Ashleigh and her family, it was then Pauline’s turn to go. Pauline introduced me to her partner, Kevin, their dog, Kyp, and their lovely mare Shadow. They were also keen to get some family portraits with their four legged children!
We began the shoot with some group shots down in the field. Capturing some natural walking away shots, as well as some more posed photos of them all together in the long grass. Once we had captured some group shots, it was Kyp’s turn for some action shots. He loved bouncing through the long grass and was ever so photogenic! After Kyp’s solo role, it was then Shadow and Pauline’s turn in front of the camera together.
Pauline and Shadow had the most precious bond! Shadow was Pauline’s first horse - she has owned her for 11 years, since she was a newly backed 3 year old. Over the years they have enjoyed hacking round the beautiful scenery surrounding their yard, and taking part in endurance rides and bits of Cross Country schooling. Pauline told me how she has had so much fun with Shadow and wouldn’t change her for the world!
Their bond shone through in all the photos, Shadow just wanted to cuddle in all the time. So much so that she smeared her green, grassy lip stick all down Pauline’s front! Thankfully we had wipes and Pauline had a change of outfit, so after a quick clean up, we were good to go again! We rounded up the shoot with Pauline hopping on board for some mounted shots. It was a little slippy and slidey without the saddle after Shadow’s bath that morning!
Thank you for having me to photograph for you all – it was lovely meeting and photographing the family. I hope you like your photos!!
