SOPHIE & CALLY - Shoot Day

October 22, 2017

Carol had contacted me regarding booking a shoot for herself and her husband, Steve, to celebrate their 30th Wedding Anniversary. She also booked for her niece, Sophie, to join in the fun with her beautiful TB Cross mare, Cally. We met up at the Havanah Nature Reserve, just up the road from their yard, which provided us with endless natural backdrops for our photos.

Sophie introduced me to 19 year old Cally, who could easily have been mistaken for being 10 years younger - she looked so smart and had a wonderful youthful glow to her coat! Cally was a just backed 4 year old when Sophie first got her, and over the years they have done a bit of everything together – even eventing round some BE80 and 90 tracks before hanging up their cross country boots when Sophie had her baby. Cally now enjoys a slightly quieter life of hacking and dressage, being placed on every outing. Sophie’s 16 month old son often pays a visit to the yard to pamper and spoil Cally with treats too!

During our shoot it became clear that Cally and Sophie had certainly been practicing! They were both complete naturals in front of the camera. Sophie told me how she had seen some photos from shoots I had previously done with friends of hers and was very inspired picking out her outfits for the day. She came prepared with interchangeable outfits – a lovely casual dungaree-style dress which went beautifully with her country boots, a long winters coat to slip on over the top, and a classy poncho to switch into. This added a nice bit of variety to her photos.

After our loop of the Havanah, capturing some individual shots of Sophie and Cally, and some group photos with Carol and Steve, we then made our way back to the yard to round up the shoot. Back on the yard, we used a dark barn doorway to create that studio-like effect for those ever so popular black background images. Cally was such a pro and modelled beautifully for us!

I hope you and Cally both enjoyed your shoot as much as I did – it was lovely to get to know you both better! Thanks again for having me.
