EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
ABOUT YOUR EQUINE BLACK BACKGROUND SHOOT
INSPIRATION
The black background shoots have been a firm favourite and highly requested. A beautiful way to transform your horses images into artwork for your walls at home.

I will come with lots of ideas up my sleeve but it's always worth checking out places like Pinterest for some of your own inspiration. This way we can look over any ideas you have just by pulling up the board on your shoot day. Although please be aware that different light conditions and other daily variables can affect the ambiance of your photos, so it's not always possible to create the EXACT same image - vision boards are more of a guide than an absolute!
LOCATION
It's so important we have the right set up in able to achieve the studio-like black background effect. I use a dark barn doorway to manipulate the natural light falling on your horse. Balanced with the barn in the background, I can create enough dark and light in the images to then take these into Photoshop and finish creating your artwork. The wider the 'opening', the better - this gives us more room to get creative with the poses. We will need all lights out in the barn, and ideally no windows casting light over the horses from above or behind.

Not sure about your location? Send me pictures and videos ahead of time and I can check this out for you!
PREPARATION
FOR YOU
For the most part, the black background shoots are centred around creating artistic images of the horse on it's own. However I do sometimes get requests to join in for a cuddle too! So if you're thinking of getting in a few too, you will need to think about your outfit!
My BIGGEST piece of advice when picking your outfit is.. go for something completely timeless! The goal is to be able to look back on your photos in years to come, and LOVE them just as much as the first time you saw them.

I'm here to capture the intimate and unique bond you share with your horse, so by keeping to neutral colours and tones with your outfit choices, and avoiding bright colours and heavy patterns, this means there are no distractions for the eye.
PREPARATION
FOR YOUR HORSE

Making sure your horse is scrubbed up for the occasion is SUPER important while we're capturing those stunning close ups! Please make sure your horse is as well presented as possible on the day - there's only so much touching up we can do in Photoshop!

EXPECTATIONS
ON THE DAY
On the day of your shoot, I will meet you at the location of your choice where we will have a chat about your vision for your shoot. It is helpful if you have some ideas before I arrive, but don't worry, I will be there to guide you along too!
I come armed with treats, squeaky toys, umbrellas (you name it!) to get the horses looking happy and alert - my trick bag!
Your horses should be all pampered and ready for my arrival as to not waste precious shoot time. Any friends or family you can persuade to join us as ground crew will come in handy.. then we will begin!
The typical shoot lasts around 30 minutes - this is our time to get creative! Each horse is unique and will naturally present themselves differently - my aim is to capture what makes them so special. I like to keep the photo shoots relaxed and fun, tailoring them to you and what you hope to get out of them.

Having said that, we often spend the first part of the shoot capturing some headshots and letting the horse relax into things, before trying out some more artistic poses.
EXPECTATIONS
AFTER YOUR SHOOT
Your shoot will leave me with many, many images to work through! I go away and work my magic on your photos. You will receive a link and password for your own private online gallery. I recommend you pop the kettle on, sit down with a nice cuppa, some of your favourite music on, and enjoy your photos!
In your gallery, you will find a couple of example edits to give you a feel for how they will look blacked out. The rest will be uploaded with just basic editing (cropping and colour correcting), ready to be blacked out once you have made your final selections.

I aim to present you with 20 - 40 photos in your gallery - this can vary from horse to horse. Your gallery should take about a week to turn around, however may take up to 2 weeks during busy periods, but I promise it will be worth the wait!
